a wealth of knowledge about animal rescue and care.
BURT LANCAT-STER
You wouldn’t know it from his picture, but Burt’s story started out sad
– until the day the malnourished, exhausted, frightened, seven-month-old
homeless cat discovered one of Nancy’s feral cat feeding stations.
Smart youngster that he was, Burt quickly volunteered for a life off the
streets, and within days, he was neutered, inoculated, and welcomed as
the newest member of a loving, permanent household.
Many other
abandoned pets in Los Angeles aren’t so lucky. Entirely because of
human neglect, there are an estimated
4 million feral cats in L.A.
County alone, left to fend for themselves on harsh city streets or
frightening alleys, in abandoned buildings and cars – anywhere they can
survive – perpetuating a virtually endless breeding cycle under
treacherous conditions.
Having met her first feral face to
face in the alley behind a recording studio, Nancy decided to start
helping out. Eight years later, she has considerable experience with
the most humane, effective means to manage the otherwise burgeoning
homeless cat population problem – TNR – the safe and harmless trapping
of a homeless cat, having a qualified vet neuter and inoculate the
animal, and returning the cat to its feral colony, where he or she will
fed and cared for by a volunteer. Burt and dozens of others like him
are happy that Nancy has taken the time to be a part of this important,
rewarding cause.
